this is a good trade for the red sox because they get decent pitching though archer has been bad at times so they stick him in the 4 or 5 slot and for the pirates they get prospects for a rebuilding pirates team
Archer is a decent pitcher, but the RS are a rebuilding mode without Sale. They can not afford to lose any prospects. This trade made sense when Sale was in the picture.
