2What is here that would motivate KC, a team that has been reluctant to trade their star?
Maybe nothing here motivates them. If I were KC, I'd look for maybe 2 high-end prospects instead of a group. The problem is that the A's don't have high-end anymore. I was more or less looking for something that's fair value. But.... KC would be getting a cheap, controllable relief pitcher with closer-type stuff. They could always trade him next year if he pitches well. They'd get Neuse and Barreto who have some upside. In fact, they could give those guys the ABs they'd need to see if they can reach their potential. They can probably slip Jeffries into the rotation next year. Then, they get a lottery ticket in Puason.
