I understand the urge to get Arenado with the offense being as shoddy as it has, but I don't think this is the right move any more. My view is Gorman has a chance to be up by next September and next winter's free agent class is (at least right now) loaded with guys who can play 3B or could push DeJong to 2B to replace Wong or 3B if Gorman isn't ready, such as Lindor (a guy can dream), Story, Corey Seager, Baez, Bryant, or even Arenado if he takes the opt-out. Correa is there too but he's got other baggage, of course. IF, and its a big if, all of those guys actually hit the market, there's definitely a window for the Cards to get one of them given their financial flexibility coming with the expiration of Fowler, Wong, and A. Miller's contracts, as well as possibly Carp's (I'm not sure what the status of his vesting option is) and an option on Carlos. Keep your talent assets in house to deal for somebody else and just spend the money rather than parting with both the players and the money.
