In real life, Mets send a lot more money to the Rockies with Cano's contract (after everything he should cost the Rox $10mil a year to tear up Coors field). Arenado invalidates his opt out.

I think this actually makes sense for the Mets and Rockies the way you describe it, but I don't think the Cubs would accept without getting back more prospects.
