9Ray was included only because the site wouldn't post the trade with only Hader going to the Dodgers. I believe the Dodgers need Hader, the Rays need cheap, young, great, catcher and Brewers need corner infielders. I'm not sure Stearns would give up proven veteran for two unproven corner infielders, but he might because it only costs 3 years of Hader for 5-6 years of control of two corner infielders. Explain why it wouldn't work.
Terrible for the Brewers. Padlo has spent 6 years in the minors and is a career .244 hitter in the minors. In 2019 he was in AAA and struckout 116 times in 351 ABs. Not a guy to be much more than a throw-in. Lowe is mainly a 2B. Utility type player. The Brewers could do much, much better.
Thanks for your thoughtful, informed insight. I'm trying to come up with a trade for the Brewers that will fill their holes in the corner infield using their most probable trade asset, Hader. I appreciate your input.
The Rays have too many corner infielders, and I imagine that all of them are available at the right price. The Rays have to trade 2-3 over the next 2 years. Those players include Y.Diaz, J.Wendle, J.Choi, M.Brosseau, N.Lowe and K.Padlo. Diaz and Lowe are the most complete players; although N.Lowe is pretty much limited to 1B. Wendle is a defensive dynamo and can play SS and 2B if needed. Choi is really good in the field (limited to 1B) and hits RHP well. Padlo and Brosseau hit LHP well and can play both 1B and 3B. Brosseau can also play 2B. Rays probably don't want Hader because of cost though, but that Ruiz trade was a gem!
Ruiz is a surplus now that Will Smith has seized the catcher's spot. N. Lowe and Stearn's choice of complimentary trade piece to Brewers, Ruiz to Rays and Hader/Ray to Dodgers. Let's make it happen.
I posted a follow up trade based on your original premise. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-31100/
mp2891 - As I mentioned on your trade proposal #31100 I really like Fleming and N. Lowe going to the Brewers in your trade. I think that is a good return and both players would be a good fit for the Brewers. As for jmont1's comments, he values Hader much higher then this site does and really much higher then most Brewer fans do. However in his defense, David Sterns has said publicly that he is not shopping Hader but he will listen to offers. I think Fleming would fit right in the Brewer rotation and N Lowe would be their starting 1B. This particular trade is a nice offer but unless the Brewers scouts are high on Padlo, I think they would want more. Diaz or Fleming in addition to N. Lowe should do the trick. The Dodgers would probably want to replace Ray in the trade also but that could be done.
You are looking at Brandon Lowe, not Nate Lowe, the first baseman. Who would you substitute for Padlo from the Rays to Brewers? How would LSP Fleming fit?
JR - This is a great trade from the Rays' perspective, and I think the Dodgers and Brewers too. N.Lowe is a quality 1B prospect (top 100 prospect before graduating as a prospect) who is blocked by Choi and Diaz at the Major league level. Padlo CRUSHES LHP and is a good overall 3B prospect who is currently blocked by Diaz and will soon be blocked by Franco. Neither player has any real chance at consistent playing time with the Rays, but they are both good players. Padlo may not be a future star, but he's also not valued as one (same argument applies to Ray). If the Rays can package them up for Ruiz, that is a huge win for the Rays and the players. Frankly, getting a former top 100 prospect with 6 years of control for Hader has to be viewed as a win by the Brewers. Hader is great, but he's getting expensive quick. If you prefer a back of the rotation starting pitcher in Fleming, that would probably work for the Rays too. I believe Fleming has 6 years of control too. Also, I wouldn't put much stock in Jmont's opinion of this trade. If he's dismissively calling B.Lowe a "utility type player" he clearly knows nothing about what he's talking (not uncommon when people talk about the Rays). For the record, B.Lowe is an above average 2B in the field who is also capable of playing COF (not because he isn't a damn good 2B, but because he's that good). B.Lowe has put up an average slash line of .262/.342/.513 in his 2 1/2 years in the Majors, good for an average OPS of .855 and 131 wRC+. He was an All-Star in his first full season with the Rays and was talked about in the MVP discussion early in 2020 before trailing off toward the end. The Rays thought so highly of him that they signed him to an 8 year contract after only 1/2 a season in the Majors. This site assigns him a trade value of 71.1. There are few second basemen better than Lowe, and only Lux and Albies have higher trade values.
