This trade SEEMS unreasonable at first considering the backlash from both sides, but thinking of it in a timetable-wise sort of deal, it adds up imo. Yankees are going to be competitive for the next say 3-4 years (WS contenders that is), and considering where the Yankees players are at with their contracts, in that a large portion of them will either be getting paid or getting old, I'm not sure if 1. the Yankees would be willing to dish out superstar money to Gleyber considering Cole and Stanton's contracts already on the books apart from others. 2. The Yankees will still be in the win now mindset after the next 3-4 years. And 3. If they would rather pay Gleyber the money, or Judge the money (Judge being the most loved Yankee player by far on the team imho). Castillo is under team control for the next 3 years (in that win now window the Yankees have set up), and despite the fact they'd be losing Torres, with a pitching rotation of Cole, Castillo, Severino, Kluber, and Delvi Garcia or German (barring they sign another FA SP), big bats in Judge, Stanton, Urshela, Voit, Lemahieu, etc. Would losing Torres to add Castillo REALLY hurt the Yankees chances immeasurably? Throw on the fact the Yankees have some very nice SS prospects poised to make it to the Majors within a few years. By the time Gleyber is nearing FA, the Reds will be rid of Votto and have the money to pay Gleyber whatever he wants, AND have a strong core of players around him, namely in the pitching rotation with Lodolo and Greene, and outfield in Winker, Senzel, and Fraizer. As far as the backlash goes, losing Castillo would sting, but adding Gleyber would CERTAINLY be a welcome addition and make that sting quite a bit less painful. Just my thoughts on a wild trade idea
