Buster Olney of ESPN is reporting the Yankees are still looking to add pitching depth and re-sign Brett Gardner. The club is nearly at the luxury tax threshold, so he suggests they could try to trade Ottavino and part of his $9 million owed. “The Yankees may have to pay down some of that money and accept a rather minimal return to do so, though, with Ottavino coming off something of a down year.” Taking on $6 million in the contract may be steep, but Abreu has upside that may make taking on that much worth it for the Angels. The return, as noted, would be minimal. But it would be likely be someone on the 40-man roster. Keller in this instance.
