2So let me get this straight. You're getting an MVP caliber 3B that has a value of $81.3M here and you want to short Cleveland $8.9M in the deal. Your title is spot on. You can keep Rios and Peters because they're not that good. We have a plethora of quality 2B so Busch is redundant. We have one of the better SP staffs so Gonsolin doesn't really make us better, especially with the subtraction of Quantrill who will probably be better than Gonsolin. Yeah, this deal doesn't benefit both teams in the slightest. How about we just trade you Hedges for Ruiz and call it a day?
"You can keep Rios and Peters because they’re not that good." I'll give you Peters is more of a wildcard, but I strongly disagree when you say a guy who made the improvements Rios did last year to have a 0.946 OPS (albeit in a small sample size) is not very good. "We have a plethora of quality 2B so Busch is redundant." He's probably going to end up at 1B or LF and can provide another much needed bat. Cleveland needs better hitters, preferably in the outfield (obviously) and at catcher (after Perez inevitably gets hurt, you have Taylor, who is awful, and Naylor, who won't be ready until '23). This trade gives them 4 options, 3 ready to step in right away and a 4th not far behind. "We have one of the better SP staffs so Gonsolin doesn’t really make us better, especially with the subtraction of Quantrill who will probably be better than Gonsolin." I would say had. Quantrill (can he go 6+ innings) and McKenzie (durability) are still question marks. Maybe one of the AAA guys can step up, who knows. But if you ask most people on this site, Gonsolin >> Quantrill. And to be honest, the trade originally didn't include Mercado and Quantrill so the values matched up better, but I tried to figure out a way to make the 40 man numbers match up a little better, while still giving the Dodgers something they could use. Maybe adding in some younger guys who don't need to be added to the 40 man right away would make it a little more even, but I believe that both Peters and Rios are underrated on here. And just FYI, I'm actually a Cleveland fan. I think they can win 90 games with the roster as it is, but that probably won't even get them in the playoffs. I'd rather they maximize JRam's value now, extend Bieber for a year, and hopefully be able to seriously compete in '23 and '24 instead of watching his trade value fall with each successive year and getting a Lindor-like return.
