5This trade makes sense for both teams as the dodgers are trying to shop price due to luxury tax, and the Sox need another starting pitcher. The Sox give 3 low end prospects and will be taking on half of price’s 2021 salary. Ramos is still young and has a lot of potential, where as pilkington and Zavala are older, but are close to mlb ready and if developed properly, can both become important figures
I get where you are going with the trade, but if the Sox already have Lance Lynn, Lucas Giolito, and some very high-MLB ready prospects in Kopech, Crochet, Kelley, Thompson, etc. etc.
Yes, but if they really want to contend with the Yankees in the Al, or even against the Twins (even though I think they are better than the Twins currently), then they will need another proven starting pitcher to fill the 4th or 5th spot right now because Reynaldo Lopez is currently filling that spot. The Sox organization has said that they plan to roll with Crochet as a relief pitcher for 2021, and a starter in 2022, where as Kopech can fill that role, but he hasn't pitched since 2018. Kelley isn't ready yet by the way, but he will be important in the future, and Thompson hasn't pitched enough innings in the minors to make the call up.
Considering the Dodgers are 30 MILLION over the luxury tax, I doubt they care about it.
Yah that is very true, but they will need to shed some cap space or else say goodbye to Seager and Bellinger.
