6Thanks for the support everyone!
Marte could be a prime deadline target if Mia fades from contention. His cost to a contending large market team is only 2m AAV for 2 mos + playoff!
It is a good trade, but it would put the Red Sox over the luxury tax. How would they stay under the limit? Marte isn't a big enough piece to put them over the top.
@queensburykid - I understand this, I was figuring that Boston would trade or release a "big contract-no output" player like Garrett Richards, allowing $ space. Also, could it finally be Houck's rotation spot? Maybe Jay Groome is pulled up after a long wait? Many options are available.
To get rid of Garrett Richards would it take a good prospect. The Red Sox don't have many decent prospects. Many Red Sox fans want see to big a splash after several years of only minor acquisitions. Acquiring to Marte seems to me as a popular decision, but the price of going over the luxury tax is too high.
Exactly. If Boston stays in it, they need to compete with the Yankees. Marte is a good player they can add for the postseason.
