2LOL. A "potential MLB level SS". Walls has 10 DRS in under 300 innings. He's a defensive stud at a premium position with a decent bat. He's not going anywhere.
Rays get out from under the Kiermaier contract and add that needed DH bat in Cruz, with the Twins eating his salary, freeing up even more payroll space for additional deadline acquisitions for the cost-conscious Rays. Maciel is a throw-in that may not even be necessary IRL since payroll space is valued more highly by the Rays than any other team and this trade accomplishes that while improving their team this year and potentially next year with that freed up space. Twins get a potential MLB level SS to plug a gaping hole they have had for most of the past decade while getting a legit backup CF for the oft-injured Buxton.
