2The trade allows the Red Sox to get a 1B who can slide to DH if JD Martinez leaves at the end of the year. Whitt fills a huge hole at second adding some much needed defense speed to the roster, and Kower a young former top prospects of the Royals to reinvent himself. For the Royals they get Bobby Dalbec who could play 1B , 3B, or DH with plus plus power. They also pick up a OF prospect lots of speed good defense.
Want no part of Santana, Dalbec for Merrifield is a good base to build on
