2Why is Pache’s value so low? I understand he had a horrible year in the majors this year, but he’s still a top 40 prospect.
He just hasn't hit, and he's down to his last option year, which means if he continues this pattern in 2022, he'll be a DFA. His clock started ticking at the end of 2020 when they first brought him up, and now his 2021 failures (both at the major-league level and with disappointing numbers at AAA) are carrying more weight. It's corroborated by the lack of confidence the front office has shown in him -- after they lost both Ozuna and Acuna, they brought in journeymen like Almonte and Heredia instead of playing Pache, then traded for four outfielders at the deadline. All of that matters. More on the modeling details are answered in the fourth question of our recent FAQ article: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/mailbag-we-get-questions-a-lot/
