7This trade absolutely reloads the As with a lot of prospects with good ceilings. Gore and Jobe are either currently, or previously, been top-30 pitching prospects. Hassell is a legit get for Olson, and Kreidler and Workman have the potential to man the left side of their infield by 2023. Morejon has already made his MLB debut as well. The Padres get out from under the contracts of Myers and Hosmer and get the best currently-rostered MLB player in the trade in Olson. They also get huge additions to their bullpen from Detroit and another legitimate top-of-the-rotation arm in Manea. This comes at a great cost of their top four prospects, but this is a true move to win the World Series. If this doesn't make them the favorites... Meanwhile, my favorite team - the Tigers - buy two of the best prospects in baseball, at positions of need - catcher and shortstop. Instead of spending $340M+ on Correa, they get a guy with an equally high ceiling while saving $100M over the course of equivalent contracts (Myers + Hosmer + Franco-esque contract). They also get an important rotation piece in Bassitt, who was an all-star this year. I assume with this trade that the Tigers are no longer on Hosmer's NTL, given their resurgence in the second half last year and a legitimate manager in Hinch. Thoughts?
Down vote for Oakland. Who knows what's going on with Gore. Jobe is EXACTLY the kind of HS arm the A's have avoided in the 1st round for the past 20 years and he's done literally nothing as a pro. Morejon is made of dandelion fluff and the whispered wish of a 3 year old when he blows out the candles on his birthday cake.
I am SHOCKED at the down votes on all SS-related trades for the Tigers. Every prospect-focus trade, even with the simulator calling it dead-even, has received more down votes on my favorite team than the teams I am mock-engaging with. I am guessing everyone on this site just wants to see Correa or Baez signed, eh? Shame there isn't more discussion.
This one just may have too many moving parts for people to get their heads around.
Every one of my Tigers proposals have had more down votes for the Tigers than the other teams! Ha! No accusations of homerism here. After watching these record-shattering deals, I just don't understand the hesitancy to trade for a legitimate SS prospect who could be cost-controlled for 5+ years. This team has been missing an elite defensive SS to protect the pitchers since Iglesias left. You want to improve the outcomes for Mize, Skubal, Rodriguez, and Manning? Put a defense behind them! Go after Kiermeier. Go after a Turang or Abrams. This team has so much depth at the corners, corner outfield, and pitching right now, it's time to get creative without bogging down the team with a $350M+ deal to Correa or a $200M+ deal to Baez.

I can appreciate the fact that the As have traditionally drafted college pitchers, but Jobe is the best high school pitcher to come out since Dylan Bundy and Daniel Norris - literally a decade ago. He's also spent time with the Tigers development program already and there has been nothing but good things coming from there. Attitude, approach, humility, etc. Gore was previously a top-5 prospect and something is off with his delivery. We have no idea if this is coaching-, growth-, or effort-related. The As have traditionally been excellent developers in the pitching department. I have no doubts that they could get him back on track. Every one of the positional players should be in a lineup within the next two years. I am not sure the As get much more in a firesale. Thanks for your feedback and the conversation!
Dylan Bundy... has had one season with an ERA under 4.00. Daniel Norris... currently trying to hold on the a big league role as a bullpen arm. Comparing Jobe to them fully and completely proves the point. Maybe Oakland can fix Gore, but if no one knows what the problem is it's awfully tough to fix things. 43% of Oakland's trade return is tied up in arms of dubious value, that's why this is a bad deal.
