1Bad contract swap time. Bellinger hasn't been good since 2019 and has had some injury troubles. Kimbrel was phenomenal in his first half last year, then stunk when the Sox tried to use him as a setup man. With Jansen's deal done, Dodgers could use a closer and the Sox could use a lefty OF who still has potential. Each team is dealing from a surplus to address a weakness. I'll admit that the potential best-case payoff is higher for the Sox, but then, the worst-case is probably lower. Kimbrel will probably always be tradeable based on the super-high demand for relievers at the deadline, while Bellinger won't be if he keeps going as he has. Sox could non-tender him next year or pick him up at another $17M or so and then be out around $33M for his services.
