1San Diego picks up another talented arm to fill out its rotation in Montas, who is relatively cheap and controllable for a few seasons. The Pads, right up against the tax line, significantly upgrade their rotation without a huge bump to their payroll (Montas projected to make 5.2 M in arb, Lamet himself is projected to make 4.7 M). Hassell is the prize here for the A's but the secondary pieces are strong too. They'll be hopeful that Morejon can join a 2023 rotation upon return from TJS, but content if he is simply a strong left-handed reliever. Lamet is a bounceback candidate who immediately fills Montas' spot in the rotation and who the team hopes will bounce back into a TOR starter for either a surprise 2022/2023 run, or to ultimately be flipped for more talent at the deadline or next winter. I'm sure Oakland would love to save more money, but the talent of Hassell is too much to pass up and they can pick up payroll savings through potential deals of Olson, Manaea, and/or Bassitt.
