3The Brewers get the bat they need and a top prospect. Gurriel Jr. should be able to play the majority of his time at 1B and can also fill in at 2B, the OF, and at DH if the DH is available in the NL. If the Brewers believe that Groshans can be an effective MLB player (everything I read indicates this) then Milwaukee would have the opportunity to put Uris at 2B in 2023 and Groshans can play 3B. Hader would join Romano and Mayza to form a strong back-end bullpen. Cimber also seems to be an effective 6th or 7th inning pitcher that will give the Jays a lot of innings. If the Jays don't make any other moves, Grichuk, Hernandez and Springer would probably be the starting OF. If Espinol is going to play 3B, then I think Kevin Smith will also get an opportunity for playing time in the OF. He's a former top 100 prospect with good power. There is another recent trade involving Hader to the Jays and I thought I'd use that trade to make this counteroffer. I don't even know if the Jays are looking to improve their pen but if they are then this trade might something they would consider.
I'd forget Groshans and have the Jays send Pearson and Mayza. Both would help make up for the loss of Hader in the pen. I'd try Gurriel in CF (while Cain is around to fill in) and 1B against lefties. Gurriel has a SS's arm and good speed. The Jays moved him from SS/2B because he looked gun shy on ground balls.
The Pearson, Mayza tandem would also work for the Brewers. I read Groshans prospect report on the Jay's web site and was impressed. I normally wouldn't have floated this trade out here but looking at Groshans potential, I thought I'd send up a test balloon. I guess the Brewers fans put a pin in it. I'm surprised I didn't get a response from a Jays fan. (Good or bad)
