I voted this trade proposal down, but I don't totally dislike it. I've come to the conclusion that the Reds need to keep Castillo if they hold out any hope to contend in 2022. This trade demands a lot back from the Halos, which they may be reluctant to include. IMO a smaller, more targeted trade will work better for both sides.

This is what I've come around to as well. Would rather them trade Gray or Mahle if they're going to trade a starter (or preferably, trade, say, Lodolo and Hendrick for an outfielder). Maybe something like Gray for Adell+Suarez, but that's probably too optimistic.

I agree. For me a trade for Mahle would really depend on the return, and I'd be very hesitant. Gray for Adell/Suarez would work. I'm intrigued by Lodolo & Hendrick for an outfielder. Who would your proposed OF target (s) be? You may also need to replace Lodolo with an equal LH pitcher. I'm excited to see Lodolo in action.

The reality is that I'm not sure there are that many quality OFs available in trade right now. -Probably one of Kiermaier/Margot/Meadows; possibly Josh Lowe or Vidal Brujan. -Outside chance that Cedric Mullins is -Tony Kemp/Ramon Laureano of the A's -Outside chance that Ketel Marte could be gotten -Maybe Lamonte Wade I don't think I'd like the package the Reds would have to surrender to get Mullins or Laureano (especially given his suspension). Lodolo/Hendrick/Hinds might interest the DBacks for Marte, but 1) I don't think they're likely to deal him, and 2) someone else would top that package. That leaves a lot of ok options like Kemp, Kiermaier, and Wade that wouldn't take a ton to get, or Lowe or Brujan (who would have to switch to center). Out of those guys, I'd prefer Brujan because the Reds could use a RH bat in the lineup. Would something like Lodolo/Hendrick/Hinds be enough to get him? Based on the values on this site, it would be an overpay by the Reds, but between Lodolo's shoulder and Hendrick's contact issues, I'm not sure.

Jurdson, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s very helpful. Lots to process here. Nothing changes my mind about keeping Castillo. Just finished watching Bengals/Rams in SB LVI and think I’ll check back tomorrow.
