If MLB let the Padres send the $40M, I believe the A's would do this. They could use $34-35M of the cash, try to con some other team into taking Hosmer for a prospect, and still come out ahead. Peraza and Campusano are legit big time prospects who should be perfect for the A's. Weathers isn't much, maybe a #5 on a rebuilding team, but worth having as a throw-in.

It's an interesting combination for Oakland. Getting Campusano/Peraza/Weathers for Olson/Kemp would be a impressive. Hosmer has/had the A's on his No Trade list and he's eligible for 10/5 rights if he can stick around in SD for one more season. This deal gives him (and his agent, Scott Boras) leverage that he wouldn't have if SD was negotiating with a team not on his No Trade list, how do you get Hosmer to OK the trade?
