3I think there are some interesting possibilities with Texas sending Lowe to NOT Oakland while still acquiring Olson. Sticking to Oakland's return... Harris and Harris sounds like a lawyer commercial but is a good basis for the return. Smith is iffy and I'd prefer someone with more ceiling. Owen White (9.6) is the closest swap I see.
Haha, good point on Harris & Harris. I agree that I don't see Oakland having any interest in Lowe as a replacement for Olson. He's not a great replacement for Freeman in Atlanta either, but given A.A.'s reluctance to give out big paydays, I'm half believing the rumor that Freddie's days are over in Atlanta. I had considered swapping Smith for White, but I felt that it gave Oakland's return too much bust potential. I'll admit that White has looked phenomenal, but he's 22, has only pitched 68 professional innings, and needs to be added to the 40 man next December. Michael Harris has a similar huge ceiling but some of his production may be the result of BABIP luck. Dustin Harris has a similar issue and his defensive issues put more pressure on the bat to develop. As for Smith, he certainly doesn't have the highest ceiling, but I like his high floor, jack-of-all-trades profile. Even if the other two prospects bust, Oakland could at least get some MLB production out of Smith. Not sure if that sense during a rebuild but if I traded a superstar like Olson, I'd at least want something in return.
I agree with everything you say about White and Smith. I've gone back and forth a lot on Owen White and ultimately I come to a different conclusion regarding the Risk/Reward. For Olson and Montas the balance should lean heavy towards upside.
