Why would the M's need another SS prospect??

oscarthegrouch

He had a good year with 115 games at triple a last year. Adam Fraiser only has 1 year left until he is a free agent. JP Crawford 2 years until he is a free agent. Arias would be insurance for the mariners who could be brought up to play this year if needed, With his 75 grade arm and 60 grade fielding he could play anywhere on the infield.

Why does Cleveland need Dunn and the light hitting Trammell?

oscarthegrouch

They are both former top prospects who are still young and cheap with multiple years left before they are free agents. They can also help in the big league this year which is what low budget teams such as cleveland look for.

GSon

Low cost and low performance.. None of the trio of Trammel, Dunn or Macko would be of interest.. Throw those guys out.. put Brandon Williamson [15.4] in their place..and a deal 15.4 + 6.6 = 22 against 21.8, is done..

LevelHeadedTrader

IMO the M's would view Williamson as far more valuable than Arias. 6'6 lefties who throw 95 w. plus secondary stuff and 12k/9 don't grow on trees. Little 2nd basemen do.

GSon

Yes.. Williamson can be and should be significantly more valuable if he reaches his full potential. That would be a huge step forward for him if it happens towards the end of 2022!! Realistically, 2023 or the better part of two years from now would be a more reasonable time line.. Williamson is clearly one of these guys caught into the pandemic/lockout cycle that does them NO GOOD w/r to development... I'm not sure who the "little 2nd baseman is".. in your comment.. at 6'1" and 215, Arias is bull strong and can play three spots in the infield including 2nd base.. His best spot is SS or 3B.. With the howitzer he has for an arm, 3B is his most likely destination.. Oh.. and he has an entire season at AAA, so, he'll be ready to contribute in 2022 from the start of the year..

Key word in your reply was "former." Arias, has multiple years of control as well, and will help the Guardians this year. Dunn would not make the Guardian rotation and Trammell is no more than a 4th outfielder which Cleveland has plenty of already. Where is the help?

BigBat

Trammel is garbage and including him in any deal kills it. It's telling when you have 4 minor leaguers whose combined values can match the one coming back to you. No team does a deal this nonsensical. Arias is a GG caliber SS with a power bat that succeeded in AAA as a 21 yr old. He's a top 100 prospect who continues to climb that ladder.
