Rays say no. They don’t need another catcher.

Not so down with this trade coming from the perspective of a Braves fan. If Freddie Freeman is not playing with a tomahawk across his chest then the team will, of course, need someone to man first. However, if Ji-Man Choi's the best they can do then I'm a bit worried. I do like to watch him play and I'm in on the Ji-Man Choi chant. I'm really into a guy that sees a lot of pitches and gets a lot of walks, doesn't try to do too much, hits his pitches, and I especially like this for a top-of-the-order type of guy. I think he probably is a good teammate. I like the splits. He's easy to cheer for. But the Braves are going to need more out of 1B if they're going to win it all again in 2022. Ji-Man's a 1 WAR/season, plenty of lower-body, injuries for a 30+ yr. old, right-side platoon-type guy for me. He can't run, his defense isn't trending in the right way, he's 1B/DH only, he K's too much, has no power, and gets eaten up by nearly everyone's Changeup. Pete Fairbanks is reduced value for me due to injury history as well. Fairbanks can pitch, for sure, he's just too risky for me. I don't think there's any reason right now for the Braves to focus their prospect capital to get back Pete Fairbanks, who is the best player in this trade. Just not a smart match for the Braves.
