Brewers laugh hysterically and hang up. Davis is a butcher at 3B. He can't play the hot corner for anyone, much less the Brewers who have Urias at 3B. Davis' Rdrs for the last 3 years at 3B: Negative 49 - Negative 36 - Negative 23. With the bat in the last two years combined he hit 11 HRs and had 42 RBIs and last year K'd at a 32% rate. Plus he's already in arby and a RH hitter. The Brewers don't want him. Nimmo is a rental who will make at least $7M next year. Not worth it to the Brewers who are already paying Cain and can't afford to take on a rental. This is a terrible deal for Milwaukee.

I don't see Davis being a 'hot commodity". If he was any good at 3B the Mets wouldn't have gone out and gotten Escobar. As jmont1 said, Davis is a butcher at 3B and not what the Brewers would want as a part-time DH (Yelich also a part-time DH). There is no sense in Nimmo for one year when they already have Cain. Nothing there for the Brewers to offset the loss of Hader.

The Mets turn their attention from a #3 starter to the bullpen. JD Davis is a hot commodity, and can play the hot corner in Milwaukee. Brandon Nimmo is a massive upgrade at the top of the lineup and in CF over an oft-injured Lo Cain. Hader to the Mets seemed like a pipe dream, but now the Mets are all in. Taylor provides the outfield depth position the Mets need. Cousins adds even more depth to the Mets bullpen. This deal means the Mets are still ready to fire on one huge outfield bat. They would need to purchase of LF or RF — who’s still available? Seiya Suzuki. As a Mets fan, I would love for that to happen.

That’s fair. I could definitely see the Brewers looking for long-term solutions in any Hader deal. I’m not going to argue that Davis is a plus defender, that would be crazy, but he does play hurt an awful lot. I’ve wondered what a healthy JD Davis actually looks like. The Mets aren’t willing to wait any longer, I don’t think. Not acquiring Nimmo makes sense since it isn’t a long-term solution due to his contract. All right. Dumb trade idea.
