IMO the Brewers say no and hang up. They have a gold glove already at 2B and Arraez is a 2B w/no power. He doesn't help. Losing Taylor would hurt more than Arraez helps. Jax is terrible and the Brewers wouldn't want anything to do with him until he learns how to pitch.

Brewers03

Arraez is excellent at getting on base which is something Milwaukee desperately needs. He would be able to play 3B or 2B, but primarily DH as he has had struggles in the field. Wong is also not going to be around for long and Arraez is controlled through 2026. The Brewers are one of the best at developing pitching so Jax would be a throw-in project. The Brewers are deep at OF and Taylor leaving would keep things fluid in the OF with Yelich, Cain, McCutchen, and Renfroe. Turang is Middle Infield Prospect with high upside. Taylor is the Big League ready OF and Chourio is a future OF for the Twins.

The Brewers are paying McCutchen to be their primary DH. They have Wong (a golden glover) at 2B. Arraez would be a huge down grade defensively at 2B on a team that relies heavily on defense. The Brewers are getting people on base, they just can't hit w/RISP. They are suffering from a severe lack of power. What they desperately need is somebody who can hit some bombs and drive in runs. Arraez isn't that guy. Taylor is Cain's only defensive replacement in CF for the 60-70 games Cain doesn't play. They need his defense because McCutchen doesn't play CF anymore and neither Renfroe or Yelich is a CF. Jax maybe a throwin if he hasn't already burned his options. He would be sent to AAA or AA immediately.

If you don't think Arraez would find playing time then you probably won't find any fit for the Brewers. There is no obvious opening in the Brewers lineup, but when you can build depth and add offense it makes sense, especially for Milwaukee. They don't have a backup Shortstop on the roster. Adames has played all 11 games. Once Urías returns he will play 3B and be able to fill in at SS to give Adames days off. Arraez can DH, play 3B, and play 2B, so there will always be ABs available. Wong needs days off as well. He hit the IL 3+ times last year.

Brew03 I think you are missing the point I believe jmont is trying to make. There is no question Arraez would be better depth on the bench than what the Brewers have now. Peterson and Brosseau can fill the same spots as Arraez, but they aren't as good with the bat. Taylor is also depth on the bench, but he is their only other CF besides Cain and we know Cain is going to sit out at least 60+ games. You are robbing Peter to pay Paul by trading Taylor and in addition losing two pretty decent prospects.

I get it, but he specifically said they don't need a player like Arraez when they clearly do. OF is the Brewers deepest position. David Dahl would be an offensive upgrade to Cain and has been ready to get called up for a while. Between Yelich, McCutchen, Dahl, Cain, Renfroe they will be able to get 162(less now) good games from Centerfield. I just like the idea of baserunners for Milwaukee. They are a team that will hit home runs. Just off to a slow start.

Spikes

Interesting debate. I'll throw my two cents worth in. I would love Arraez to be a Brewer and be their leadoff hitter. Career stats: .313 batting average and .375 OBP. Admittedly he would be a much better fit in 2023. Will the Brewers pay $10MM to the 32-year-old Wong next year? Will the Brewers resign the 36-year-old McCutchen? Or could they use that $18MM a year to sign or trade for a power hitting RBI batter which we all agree they need, and have an on base batter like Arraez hitting in front of him? It is mentioned in this debate that Arraez is not a good fielder. His 2B stats last year shows he had 2 errors playing 2B in 48 games with a fielding average on .987. League average was .982. In 2020 he played 31 games at 2B and had 1 error with a fielding average of .992. Admittedly, in his rookie year he had a rough time at 2B. Maybe that is why he is considered a bad fielder and maybe he still is, but the fielding stats indicate otherwise. However, I have not watched him enough to make a solid argument on his defense one way or the other. Sure, Wong is better but that doesn't mean Arraez is bad. In summary, I think Arraez could be a very valuable player and at a reasonable cost with good control. I hope they look into acquiring him for the 2023 season but I don't think this trade as presented would be made at this time. In fact, I don't think the Twins would make this trade. But, it's a great idea Brewers03 and I look forward to seeing if the Brewers reach out to Minnesota after the season, or at the trading deadline if injuries dictate a move would have to be made.
