In this proposed deal Milwaukee sends Lorenzo Cain back to Kansas City where he won a World Series as well as paying the remainder of his final year contract. Along with him the Brewers would send their top IF prospect Brice Turang who can fill in for Merrifield. The Brewers would use Merrifield in a utility role all over the diamond including CF.

Spikes

KC has been stubborn in the past about trading Merrifield and I don't believe this package would be tempting enough for KC to change it's mind. Merrifield would provide added depth to the Brewers but his batting average has gone down in each of the last 4 years and he is off to a slow start this year. He is also 33 years old. In addition to KC's reluctance to trade Merrifield, would Milwaukee want to give up Turang to get 2 years for an aging Merrifield? As a Brewer fan if this trade were actually made I'd be surprised but not necessarily disappointed. However, I give it a down vote for both teams because I don't think either team would accept the trade as presented.

I just can't see the Royals getting much more than a top 5 organizational prospect at this point, given as you said, Merrifield is 33 and not performing well. I think a Turang-range prospect would be a steal for KC and the Brewers are desperate for a boost. Merrifield seems like the type of player worth taking a shot on. Maybe it isn't the perfect trade but Merrifield to Milwaukee makes a ton of sense and KC trading Merrifield at some point to someone makes even more sense.

Spikes

Your comments are logical, and the trade would make sense if KC were as high on Turang as a prospect as you are. I am also high on Turang and in the Brewer organization, he could be next year's second baseman or even centerfielder. Wong's contract would be $10MM next year so will the Brewers pick up that option. I think Cain may retire but if he doesn't, I still don't think he'll be with the Brewers. As I mentioned, I would not be disappointed if your trade proposal would happen, but I just think KC's past attitude about Merrifield continuing to be a Royal indicates to me that this trade wouldn't happen even if it makes sense. But GM's can change their mind, so who knows.
