4Down vote for Oakland. The A's are about to clear Piscotty and Andrus off their books... why trade them to add DeJong to the 2023 payroll?
I gave it a 👍. Taking on DeJong allows the A's to afford (TV wise) the acquisition of both Liberatore and Winn. DeJong's AAV is about 4.5 mil, which is less than Piscotty's. Next season there'll be no other big contracts nor expected substantial arb payouts. The A's payroll should be a non factor, such that taking on DeJong wouldn't pose any kind of problem, at least as I see it.
Andrus is there as a placeholder to Nick Allen, and the A's certainly aren't going to burn his prime years for 3 years for DeJong.
According to Fangraphs DeJong’s‘24 and ‘25 seasons are club options, so the A’s would only be on the hook for ‘23. I wouldn’t expect DeJong to take playing time from Allen. He’d be Allen’s understudy for a season then allowed to walk. If you’re aware of a different set of circumstance concerning DeJong’s contract, please elaborate.
