1Nationals take on Hosmer's deal in order to get a better prospect package than they would in a standalone Bell trade, the Padres upgrade first and get some additional free space under the luxury tax this year (bulk of the cash would be paid out 2023-25). Nationals are rebuilding so little issue rostering a declining Hosmer for a few years. I'm not really familiar with the prospects, so I picked a few as placeholders.
