This trade takes from the areas the Rays are strongest and hits them where they are weakest (not counting catcher). The 1B/3B situation is very good for the Rays, with Diaz, Choi and Parades playing those positions. Outfield is a definite weakness of the Rays right now, so swapping Aroz for Alonso and Baty won’t work. Trading Mead for Ruiz as a straight up trade won’t work but the Rays would definitely love to have Ruiz.
