Weird underwater trade. Can someone explain to me why the White Sox did this deal?
It's been half a decade since they last played in October, and they find themselves in position to win their division with a bye. They acquired a struggling, but legitimate veteran starter with playoff experience in exchange, essentially for ~$20 Million dollars. That's on a payroll that's 26th in MLB.
It is more like a 15 million dollar gamble, Castillo hasn't been good this year. 15 millions in rentals seems like a better gamble. Gets some more productive rentals for no more money.
Complete desperation for a SP is all I can imagine. Castillo isn't cooked yet but the oven is preheating.

How can you disregard a catcher with a 1.100 OPS in AA and a reliever that has been lights out in his last 8 innings going to the most pitcher friendly park in baseball. Also the M's save $18M by trading their 6th starter. Huge win for the Ms.
Even if Seranthony is our 6th inning reliever, he upgrades our bullpen and the M's clear salary and take on a prospect flyer.

How in the heck do you not have the White Sox #15 prospect a 23 yo Catcher with over a 1.100 OPS in AA in the system. Massive over site on BTVs part. Less than 1 value. Right.....Lost credibility with that situation.
It depends on which prospect list you look at. The ones we use, which correlate more strongly to trade values, do not have Smith ranked.
I am looking at MLB.com. Seems pretty reputable. lol He is now the Mariners 14th ranked prospect. I see you only have our 15th ranked prospect worth 1 so I guess you are consistent. Given his performance this season Smith is going to be ranked a lot higher imo. Thanks.
The correlation between MLB Pipeline and real-life trades has been historically weak, which is why we don't use them.
