2Taking the A’s off-season outlook from mlbtr as motivation, the A’s take on bad money in order to buy a few prospects. Kingery is worth 8 M in real dollars in 2023 and 4 M against the tax. Segura will be bought out, so the A’s take that on. Overall, the Phils save 10 M in real dollars (including Kingery’s 2024 buyout), and 5 M against the 2023 CBT, giving them slightly more flexibility to add to the 2023 roster. Both Rojas and Miller are decent prospects, but neither are poised to help the aging Phils in 2022 and both need to be added to the 40-man. The A’s add some needed talent to the system and are still unlikely to spend more than 50M on their 2023 team
Bad money, kinda. Prospects? Both are Rule 5 eligible this year and would require 40-man space. A's: Nah.
