4Using Cash as a placeholder but testing the strategy of a "Take on a bad contract in exchange for a prospect." Also, the A's take pressure off themselves for having such a low payroll and have the PR of a reunion with Donaldson.
Donaldson has a limited no-trade clause to five teams in his contract. I haven’t found any source listing those teams but, I think it’s a safe bet Oakland is on it. I think Donaldson’s contract might prove too rich for the A’s, anyway. As I understand it, he’s owed 21 mil in ‘23 and is guaranteed 8 mil in ‘24, even if the option isn’t picked up. If the A’s did pull the trigger on this, I don’t think I’d mind. It would definitely be a very aggressive move on their part, a gutsy one, too. I definitely would love to see Dominguez in an A’s uniform.
Thank you for the additional context. I see your point that the A's are likely part of his no trade clause as he is clear he wants a ring. Outside of Donaldson, I'm just wondering if the A's ownership is going to get pushback from the league for a payroll under $30m when the they are getting $30M in revenue sharing. I do like the idea of taking on bad contracts for prospects and using this approach for a couple of years during a rebuild, I wonder if others make sense.
I'm ok with Irvin cuz they have waldichuk .but I don't really think they want Donaldson. Encarnacion=strand..yes..cinnci
