Nothing here to motivate the Guardians to damage their bullpen.

Catcher has been an offensive black hole for the Guardians. Sands: 243PA, .309 AVG; .413 OBP; .428 SLG; .841 OPS. Good glove. Minimum salary and multi-year team control. Ortiz, though listed on this site as 1B, is an outfielder, good enough to play CF, and with a cannon for an arm for RF. Power hitter who needs to become more selective. Ogle, LHRP with good stuff, who needs better command, something at which the Guardians' coaches are highly rated. For the Guardians, it's a trade from surplus.

This is honestly a bad trade for Cleveland... Hentges is way better than what is listed on here and Cantillo may be the best LHP in Clevelands organization, he just cannot stay healthy. We will send you Palacios for Sands... Thats all that could happen, but I don't think Cleveland would do even that...

Russ, even though I don't like the trade, I appreciate you taking the time to explain your thoughts. Here are some of my thoughts why Cleveland wouldn't do it: 1. Cantillo is well thought of by Cleveland. He's had a couple of injuries that have slowed his development, but he is a stud in the making. 2. Hentges is going nowhere. He's cheap, good, controlled for yrs and on a team that intends to compete from here out. Outside of him they have no LHRP that is proven. 3. DLS has been phenomenal. He's also cheap, controlled for yrs and good. 4. Bo Naylor is going to be Cleveland's C going forward. It would be nice to have a better backup and I hope they deal for Toronto's Jansen who could possibly offer a bit of positional flexibility. Sands could be an option if he can play 1B as well, but this deal doesn't work. Maybe a Sands for Pilkington would be better?

Sands profiles as a back-up catcher. Cleveland has a better catcher prospect in Bo Naylor for 2023. Hentges and De Los Santos have been important pieces of the Cleveland bullpen. They have proven to be successful bullpen pieces in MLB. Ogle bombed this year at AAA. As I said before, nothing here to motivate the Guardians to move two successful bullpen pieces.

John Bitzer - Hentges has played most of the year in the majors. He should not be listed in the minors here.

Thanks, JMF, for that catch. We've been calculating his value a major-leaguer, but somehow missed changing that field a while ago. It's fixed now. The value doesn't change.

I would put up Hentges value as well if possible... I am not saying it has to be much higher, but he had a very good season, he should be around 1-2 area from that alone, plus Cleveland isn't really as open to moving him since he is their only left-handed reliever at the current moment going into 23. Hentges has improved his non-4 seam fastball pitches like his sinker and it really helped him over the hump. Sinker use went from 9% in 21 to 26% in 22...

That's not John's error to correct Coach. The values are derived from other sources and Hentges' value will certainly increase. I just don't think it happens as quickly as some of us would like to see which certainly has some bias tied to it. Although his 62IP, 2.32 ERA, 2.48 FIP, and 72 SO vs 19 BB is certainly worth more than .2. Especially when you consider he is controlled for years and cheap.
