White Sox add gaggle of close to MLB ready talent in exchange for Robert Jr. Martinez ($21M) and Robert (15M) nearly offset salaries, Reds pay down $6M difference, White Sox redirect Martinez and an additional $3.4M in cash to Athletics for Clarke (Projected 2025 ETA, Very toolsy OF, likely to be squeezed out of a spot by Bleday, Butler and Colby Thomas.) who now add a strong rotational/swing arm for 11.6M of their own money. Reds ship close to ready pinched SP prospects, upside power corner OF in Hinds and squeezed out CWS 3B of the future in Stewart; add Robert to RF

Down vote for the A's. They love Clarke's upside and Martinez would be a very expensive #5 SP.

Which is why I had around 45% of his contract being paid down. He is also a little more proven than Bido/Sears/Estes and would probably get a start in a five-game series for them. Clarke I think gets squeezed out because they seem to LOVE Bleday, and Colby Thomas is going to take Miguel Andujar's spot very quickly

Martinez is certainly more proven than Estes and even Bido, but the A's like both arms as they're cheap and have minor league options remaining. The problem is upside; Martinez isn't an Ace and with only 1 year of control he's of limited upgrade to the rotation. I disagree that they LOVE Bleday. He's not very good defensively in CF (Clarke's forte) and could end up trade bait next offseason if Clarke can figure things out with his swing. Put another way... you don't trade Clarke's upside for a rental when the goal is to break .500, not necessarily win the division.
