5Mead gives the Mets a better utility option over Baty. Baty gives Polanco more time at DH. Ray's get a high upside prospect
I hate to say this but I think TB has fumbled Mead so bad that I'd do this deal, I think Mead could still be a good player but I don't think Tampa is ever going to give him an extended look.
I'm torn on this trade. The Rays clearly don't value Mead and are likely to end up trading him only after he has lost all his trade value, so getting a decent prospect for him today sounds pretty good. That said, Peete would just be another defense first, light hitting SS who might not be better than the 3rd best SS in the Rays' minor league system. What to do, what to do...
Peete has started to take reps in CF last year. Reports have him having a very high ceiling if it clicks
I don’t know that I buy his ceiling being any higher in CF than it is at SS, but the Rays do love versatility and the path to playing time in CF (or COF) is easier with the Rays than SS.
