This should be an easy NO for the Rays. Ford's blemishes might be the reason he hasn't been traded yet, and not that the Mariners want to hold on to him at all costs. I'm sure the Rays would like to add him, but probably at a discount to what BTV values him. Peete adds nothing to the Rays group of defense first SSs already in the system. Would he be better than Barrios? Santana? The Rays recent signings of 2 top Int'l free agent SSs? At the end of the day, all of these guys are insurance policies for C.Williams, who is the best defender of the bunch and has (by far) the best bat. I doubt the Rays have any interest sacrificing their potential closer (or set up man) and their 1B of the future for another insurance policy. As for Farmelo, he's a fine prospect (but probably not a future star), but he's crazy overvalued at $21.7MM. He's also going to miss half of 2025 with a knee injury.
