4Red Sox save a quarter of a billion dollars and get rid of a disgruntled player. Giolito comes back in ace form and wins NL Cy Young. Devers wins NL MVP. Hoerner wins Gold Glove at 2B and batting title. Thompson joins the Thompson Twins and has a hit record. Cubs beats Red Sox in 7 to win WS. Stupid Jed saves his job.
Hey DaJoob Under normal circumstances you may be right, but as an outsider looking in, I see an unhealthy situation in Boston, which is exploitable by other teams. The Red Sox current management seems to think it’s under no obligation to keep promises made by the former administration to its star ballplayer, which has resulted in having a disgruntled athlete as a core member of the team. Maybe they ignore it and play on. But I think they would be wise to look at trades, which they might have passed on before. I think the Cubs are one of the few teams with the wherewithal to take on Dever’s contract. Right now the Red Sox are under water on a number of contracts, like Yoshida and Story, possibly Giolito (not sure of his health). Maybe that could be part of the equation. If the Red Sox don’t watch it, they could have an Anthony Rendon situation on their hands. If Boston is willing to toss in some cash, I think Hoerner and a top prospect would be enough to land Devers. But Shaw is off the table.
unhealthy situation - that’s an understatement…. Hoerner and a top prospect wouldn’t be enough to land Devers. Honestly, never a consideration, Hoerner isn’t a need in any way and unless the “top prospect” is Shaw……like I said, Cubs don’t have the players to trade for Devers. Giolito claims to be healthy and is on pace for a completely normal work load this spring and for the season. This obviously means he’s ailing and will be out for the foreseeable future once the middle of May arrives.
Other then Mat Shaw the Cubs don’t have the players to trade for Devers, 😣
