Abreu is a decent player but don't think Preller is keen on committing to a career corner OF long term. Tatis and Merrill (and Profar for that matter) were INFs that converted to OF so I think that's the direction he'd prefer to go. In a pinch those guys could still play INF and I think Preller values that type of versatility even if he doesn't necessarily use or need it, or maybe he just believes INFs converted to OF are simply superior defensive players, but it's his pattern. Additionally I don't see Padres trading Cease unless they're blown away by an offer. This one is fair by the numbers but don't think Preller is looking for fair when the current rotation is as solid as it is. Don't believe everything that the SD media says, if Padres needed to unload payroll so desperately they would've done it by now.
