Rumor has it that the Padres are in the market for a DH. Rumor also has it that they aren't interested in trading Cease; however, I don't buy that. So this trade proposal has the Padres swapping Cease for a big bat DH with 2 years of control at reasonable salaries, a COF prospect who should be a call-up in 2025, and a SP prospect ready for the Majors to add depth to their rotation. From the Orioles standpoint, they land a TOR pitcher by giving up 2 top outfield prospects who they don't really need, their CB-B pick in this year's draft and two ok pitching prospects, one a of whom is a far off 17 year old. That's a lot to give up, but to land Cease without having to give up one of the Orioles top 5 prospects is a huge coup. From the Rays standpoint, they swap one of their best bats to strengthen their Farm. The Rays outfield was a hot mess last year, and while they expect J.Lowe to rebound and have high hopes for C.Simpson down the road, it's undeniable that the Rays could use Kjerstad immediately. Reilly and Mejia provide additional pitching depth down the road. Neither would likely be a starter with the Rays, but you never know (particularly Mejia given his age). The pick gives the Rays a chance to add another good prospect to the Farm with 4-5 years of control, which is important in a system as deep as the Rays. Losing Diaz hurts, but the Rays will be just fine at 1B/DH immediately (Aranda, Morel, Eloy Jimenez, B.Lowe) and in the future (Aranda, Isaac, Morgan, and B.Seymour).

I like it. Yandy is really good, but if there's a position the Rays should get worse at to get better at in the OF, it's 1B/DH. I think this would be a steal by the Rays, but that's okay this late in the off-season. The supply just isn't there
