10I don't see Cleveland moving Arias right now... That being stated at the end of spring, it's very possible he could be traded, so at the end of spring, if he doesn't get a spot, this is definitely a deal I can see happening
Houston likely laughs at Cleveland offer. Arias bats RH , which Astros want. But Arias hit about .100 vs LHP in '22-23. Plus I don't think he hustles. He seems pretty arrogant to me. Cleveland 'pitching factory' going the way of other Cleveland companies so they would miss on pitcher that could maybe help. Too bad.
I think the Guardians would definitely do this deal. Arias is out of options while Gusto has three. Would be a nice depth option for Guardians.
Though Arias has a legit chance of making the roster even if he did have an option left... 2B job is open and so are both utility roles... Arias is stronger defensively at SS than any of the utility guys available plus can hit for more power and they lack power/slg% as a unit. Plus Cleveland is already ten deep with their SPs now without Bieber and they are deep in the bullpen without Stephan, which both guys will be back in the second half. Freeman is actually the odd man out in Cleveland even though he has an option left...
I'm betting on Brito winning the 2B job. Arias probably makes the roster primarily because he doesn't have an option. I hope Arias has a great spring as he is the best defensive option at SS, but I don't see much difference between Arias, Freeman, Martinez or Schneeman. The one big difference is Arias doesn't have an option, so if he doesn't have a good spring and one or two of the others do...
Then I could easily see Arias traded then... But right now, he's likely gonna have a job in Cleveland
Umm... You know Cleveland had two of the best minor league pitchers last season stats wise yes? Also they just acquired Two MLB arms in trades and two SP prospects this off season, while they signed Junis to finalize the roster... Also if Arias was a bad apple, they would have moved him already. They get rid of those guys
yes, I am aware of that. thank you
Well Cleveland would have moved Arias already IF he did have character issues... Right now, I think if any of the INF guys were traded it would be Freeman since Arias is a better fielder overall than Freeman.
Mandy Bell alluded to Arias' yesterday with comment much closer to my take than yours. BTW, I was looking to find 10 deep starters and while some 'MLB Arms" might be found if definition was stretched, not too many are proven. Maybe it's enough but AL Central is better than 2016-2023 now.
