2Bit of a wild trade. I agree. Assumptions made: The “surprise “ team in for Bregman is actually Arizona. Lets say 5 yrs/$155 million ($31 million AAV) with an opt out after year 2. Signing is contingent on this trade going through. They double dip for Boras clients (Burnes) as they go for it against the Dodgers in that stacked NL West Division. Now They need to get some money off of the books. $30 million. The A’s need to get another $10-$20 million of payroll on the books to be in compliance with the MLBPA. They decide to “buy” some prospects from the Yankees. And Monty is only a 1 yr commitment (unlike Stroman). Arizona eats $6 million for the Montgomery experiment. Saving $16.5 million. They also get a nice controllable RH RP piece inbound Hamilton. We have a ton of relief options (despite Cousins injury). We will be ok. Yankees need a 3B and Suarez checks a lot of boxes. He is solid defensively, somewhat affordable ($13 million AAV), Right handed power could be nice at clean up and most importantly only a 1 yr commitment. Strikeouts are a huge concern, but again we can’t get perfection. Dbacks essentially get to $29.5 million dollars in savings for the Bregman contract. Just thinking outside of the box here for every team. Yanks total AAV would be around $317 million (roughly same as last year).
Welp-I missed on this after the Bregman signing w/the Red Sox.
