7Moore? Reds do not need another midfielder. Aguiar just had TJ.
This is a suckers bet. McLain can give the Reds the same power Ward may provide. And McLain is in Cincy for 5 more years vs. Ward's 2! Your spin falls way short.
Ah well, ymmv. Obviously the trade proposal doesn't only contain Ward, it contains the Angels' top prospect, a top 100 guy, destined for LF this year. Meanwhile, Lux leaves McLain hunting for a position, while the Reds' collective outfield generated -0.2 fWAR last season. Ward generated almost 3 fWAR alone last season. Hays isn't going to suddenly solve the Reds' replacement level, bottom-three MLB outfield. This trade gives the Reds two 20+ HR players at a position they have few solutions for via farm or free agency. I'm hardly the first to pair Cinci and the Angels via Ward – Mark Fensand of SI was pitching the match-up earlier this offseason. The Reds are going to struggle to become a .500 club again until they uplevel their outfield.
Wow! Christian Moore is going to hit 20+ HRs if he is traded to the Reds! Moore cannot hit breaking balls. Reds already have a version of Moore in Noelvi Marte. Feinsand's is not believable. This proposal INAG.
Stale scouting reports – 5 of the 6 HRs he hit in his pro debut were on breakers (.347/.400/ .584 slash overall). He's an aggressive swinger, no doubt, but BA pegs him as a 25+ HR middle of the order threat – big power, lower batting average. He holds Tennessee's record in longballs – and they were the #1 baseball program in the nation last year. If you think he can't hit it over the fence in a pinball machine like Great American, you have a, well, interesting take on baseball. Moore has work to do, but he projects as a slugging LF with a high ceiling if he chills and refines his swing decisions.
Given that he is such a great hitter the Angels need to keep him!
Virtually no scout believes Moore remains an infielder long-term – he's expected to be a power-first corner outfielder, which the Reds have little of in their system. The Angels contention window isn't for another 2-3 years, so a longer term bet on Aguiar makes sense as a complementary piece in the deal. This exchange gives the Reds two years of a hitter with more power than anybody in their current OF (25 HRs in '24) and a longer term slugger to replace him in LF.
