PECOTA is very high on the Cubs and this gets the Cubs another hard throwing LH RP (controllable for 3 years). Mead is a possible hold over at 3B if Matt Shaw isn't quite ready. The Cubs trade from their OF surplus which gives the Rays a possible LH power bat in the OF.
Great trade from the Rays' perspective. Mead isn't getting opportunities with the Rays, so if they can flip him for a top prospect at an area of need, that would be fantastic.
