3Not sure why either team would say no. This puts Cubs in the playoffs. Plus, they would get draft picks, if Cease and Arraez can't be extended. Padres get three solids. Brown could be an All-Star.
That is the conventional wisdom. He had the lowest hard hit ball rate. But he is a Carew-Boggs kind of contact hitter, and I still think that it's a tremendous skill. Cubs don't have anyone (other than Tucker, maybe) like that on the team. Personally, I'd love to see him at the top of the order 4-5 AB's every game. Sub for Hoerner at 2B at the start of the season, DH, a little third.
I don’t think Arraez would be worth a qualifying offer. He’s a light hitting middle infielder which isn’t valued very highly and are generally plentiful.
