3What’s with all the B.Lowe trades today? With the Kim signing, I doubt the Rays trade Lowe or Diaz now.
Diaz, I have no idea given that he is 1B only, but the Rays do have young MLB ready middle infielders that they won’t want to take away ABs from. Trading Lowe, if the return is good enough, which I think this is, makes sense in this regard. I could even see the Ms getting desperate enough to throw a young minor league pitcher like Ashton Izzi in there to get a deal across the finish line.
The Rays signed Kim because those good young infielders aren’t expected to see the Majors in 2025 (C.Williams, B.Taylor), are looking like they will be traded soon to get off the roster (Mead and Basabe), or are on the active roster but not getting the job done (Walls and Caballero). Going from Lowe to any of these guys is a big drop off in 2025. It could happen I suppose, but then why sign Kim when he may not play until June? Seems like the Rays intend to go for the playoffs this year, and that requires Lowe.
