The Royals have to improve their offense before OD, right? Outside Witt, the rest of the team hit in the low 90 wRC+ range last year. Just awful!!! This trade remedies that problem a little by adding Ward to the outfield. Royals could also add Y.Diaz to 1B/DH in a 2 team trade with the Rays. They have an extra catcher to spare, so they flip Mitchell for Ward. From the Angels perspective, they don’t want to trade Moore but adding a good young pitcher like Pep plus a former top prospect like Mead at 2B/3B is worth it. For the Rays, this trade is all about building for the future, which begins in 2026.
