2Is Ford a top catching prospect with a future behind the plate? That’s the question. Every prospect ranking service says his catching is still a work in progress. You would think the Mariners would want him to focus on his craft then, but they decided to start playing him in LF last year for “positional flexibility”. On the other hand, the Rays are said to like him as a catching prospect. Personally, I’m no longer interested in a Ford trade to the Rays, at least at a near $20MM valuation.
I think the M's held onto him for too long. I think they should have used him at the deadline to pry Diaz from the Ray's instead of them getting Turner. It would have solved 1 less issue for the offseason. I think the M's are thinking if Ford is ready to keep progressing with the bat, keep it moving as they Raleigh behind the plate at the moment. Still keep Ford catching but have other ways to keep him in the line up
