1This is the “best Diaz to Mets trade” I can see the Mets offering that the Rays might accept. Losing Baty and Acuna is painless to the Mets with Vientos, Mauricio, J.Williams and others in the System. Rodriguez and Santucci are exciting prospects but they are also far away and might not amount to anything. From the Rays standpoint, they have plenty of 1B candidates to take over for Diaz, with Aranda first up. They desperately need to replace Walls with another good defensive SS. Acuna is exactly that. Baty still has potential to be an elite bat. I don’t know where the Rays would play him but they can figure that out later. Rodriguez could be a stud defensive catcher, which the Rays love, and Santucci could develop into a SP. Plus, both Rodriguez and Santucci are years away from needing Rule 5 protection.
