The cash added from the Mariners had to be added for the trade to go through but more than likely the Twins will have to pay the Red Sox to offset part of Vazquez’s salary between $5-$10m. The Red Sox get their playoff caliber (can handle the pressure) pitcher in Castillo while giving up Casas whom they’ve been previously rumored to offer for Castillo but were turned down by the Mariners. The slight consolation though is that they take on part of Vazquez’s contract which is sort of destiny to possibly finish his career where he started it. The Mariners acquire their starting 3B in Miranda and a platoon-mate for Dylan Moore in Edouard Julien at 2B, Miranda coming over with 4-years of control and Julien with 5. Add to that Chris Paddack on a 1-year 7.5m contract. Paddack creates depth and possibly a bounceback season as he’s in a contract season and pitching in Seattle is an ideal landing spot in their pitcher friendly division and park. Seattle would also be opening up about $15m more to round out the rest of their roster. Finally Minnesota, the Twins have a logjam on the IF with Luke Keaschal tearing through the MiiLB. They also have Willi Castro that rotates through there too. This trade consolidates and capitalizes on their current depth into Triston Casas while also opening up about $15m to round out the rest of their lineup and/or possibly using those funds to EXTEND WILLI CASTRO.
