1Benefits: The Mets have many infield options and poor starting pitching depth. They won't miss McNeil, and Stroman and Warren can be put to good use. Although they will need to kick in $11.5M to help defray McNeil's salary, their commitment to Stroman for $18.5M for 2025 would be offset by the $20M total salary relief they would get by trading McNeil (2025 and 2026: $15.75M - $5.75M = $10M/year). The Yankees get a middle infielder (who can play elsewhere) whose power numbers will likely get much better playing in Yankee Stadium and who can fill the Yankees need for a leadoff hitter. Their Competitive Balance Tax payroll position will improve for 2025 (to about $295M, or $6M under the top tax threshold of $301M).
