This proposed Duran trade at least addresses a need for the Twins. But it begs the question: why do you want to get rid of Duran so badly? I'd do this for the Twins, but not for the Angels. If they're going to trade O'Hoppe, it's going to be for a package that makes them better. This only makes them more expensive and creates a hole at catcher in a year.

I don’t think a d’Arnaud + Vasquez catching tandem is a massive downgrade from O’Hoppe in the short term. Fangraphs projects the Angels bullpen to rank 23rd in fWAR in 2025, Duran would be a huge upgrade for them with 3 more years of team control. It doesn’t seem like the Angels see themselves as a rebuilding team - if they want to compete this year, they need to do something to improve their bullpen. Their farm system isn’t great, so trading a young big leaguer like O’Hoppe is probably their best chance to get a legit closer.

Vazquez for 1 year at $10 million is a huge downgrade from 4 years of O'Hoppe. No team in baseball chooses the former over the latter. A team coming off of 99 losses has problems to solve way before it looks at a closer upgrade. I can think of a few scenarios where the Halos might give up O'Hoppe to the Twins, but not for a closer. They have way too many other pressing problems. Like who's going to play 2B? Or 3B? Or start?
